Garden update!

You like my NEW compost bin? Love it. There is a lid on the top and bottom. I can turn it, so it mixes. The old one is in the back ground next to it. It was busting out at the corners.
Strawberries upper right corner and asparagus bottom right. I built these frames from our very old decking. We also used the odd decking for kindling in the winter. Yes, it's still a work in progress.
I'm putting weed free paper down and mulch on top.
The weeding was really getting to me. The frame next to the compost bin is a 4 x 4. Correct size. Oh right next to that frame are the cucumbers, they'll be climbing the fence.
These frames are 3 x 4. Only because that's the sizes I had. The white large planter in the back ground I planted potatoes in. We have to many rocks here to plant them in the ground. It starting to look good, I think this frame think is going to work so well.

Spring is in the Air

It's official spring is here!
When I see our crocus's pop up I know that spring is near. With mid 60's and sunny today Rob working on the deck, and me getting my hands dirty getting the winter debris out of the flower beds, herb garden and strawberry patch. (Need to thin them out this year, they're spreading into the asparagus plot)
Starting the seeds in door, and the peas and cucumber already shot up.
Now we are waiting on the Romaine Lettuce, Jalapeno peppers, Tomatoes, Egg Plant and regular leaf lettuce. I know it will be another month or so before I can actually plant anything outside, but it felt good being outside with the sun warming my body while I work.
On that note, we are having burgers on the grill tonight!
Yum!

The Start of Garden '09

My 2009 Vegetable Garden.

A volunteer from last year. Yes, alot of rocks too.
Onions
Cucumbers, pickling and eating.
Zucchini

Egg Plant and my NEW compost bin. I had some problems with bugs. I sprayed, hopefully it worked. In the back ground is a bag of shredded paper for the compost.

Sweet Peas, with some of my shredded paper.

This is a new one for me. Broccoli. We eat it! We'll see what happens.
Peppers here. Green, Red and jalapeno
Spinach here. yum we fight over this stuff.

Cherry and Beef Steak tomatoes .
Radishes and Asparagus.
Tasty Strawberry. These ar so good! They all don't make it up to the kitchen . heheheh
See the red ones!
They call this one Winter Onions, they grow year after year. The bulbs are like little bulbs. I do have to thi this out.

August Garden

Here is my mystery plant. I still don't know what it is, but it's budding. I guess I have to just wait and see.

Remember my little green pumpkin growing on the fence?

Well a month has gone buy.

I had to cradle it, so it wouldn't break off.

I used a old sheer curtain, and tied it off.

It's now the size of a watermelon!

It's also turning orange.

What am I planning?

Looking for a lot of pumpkin recipes, what else.

Remember that lone corn plant?

Look at it now!!

I must have 8 or more ears of corn growing.

YUM!!

Remember in the beginning, my wonderful bench?

Where did it go????

The pumpkins have taken over!!!!

My garden is going great! I have more cucumbers that I know what to do with. Give them away of course. My tomatoes, because of all the rain we have had are only giving enough for everyday eating. The bottoms are molding. But we are still eating!!! I'm curious on the corn, never grown it before, but it's looking good.
This is my first time I have been back gardening for the full season. Last year I was gone for a few weeks, the dry weeks.

Yes, I'm going away again for 7 days this time. My grand baby girl shower. I also hope to see my grandson's mommy there.. I wish I wasn't so far apart. I want to be a grandmother, a fun loving grandmother, spoil them rotten!!!! I find away to be a distant spoiling grandmother.

My July Garden

My garden is taken off with all the rain we have been having. Every day I can go down to the garden and come back with tomatoes, (they remind me of Jersey tomatoes. YUMMY!! Cucumbers), did I mention I have leftovers from last year? Yes, cukes and tomatoes.

The funny thing is I like the ones from last year more then I do this years .

This is one of my stragglers from
last year. I already got 7 cucumbers from this one.
I put down straw in between the walk ways. No seeds,
and also less weeding. It also keeps the moisture better .

Remember my compost? I have to hop and jump over the PUMPKIN PLANT!!! It has taken over my compost, but I'm still adding to it.

I have pumpkins and they are taking over!! I have this growing on the fence. I think I need to cradle it. So it doesn't fall off the vine as it grows bigger. This is the biggest one, I do have some more.

OK, my new mystery plant coming from the back of the compost bin. Have any ideas?

We have been busy outside, since the weather has been not so bad. So I haven't really been down stairs doing any quilting. I do need to. I have grand babies coming. busy... busy... busy...
Until next time ..enjoy...

June Garden

I took some more recent pics of my garden. Also started my pickings. Yum!
Strawberries are just about done. Have some in the freezer for home made ice cream. Salads every day. I just love garden lettuce. Rob wanted a trellis, so the vines could climb on it and the fence.

I have a old ladder for my cucumbers to climb. I also put down soaker hoses. I really haven't used them much, because we have had a lot of rain this year.

Picture of my spinach, green tomatoes (I can't wait til they turn red!) Also, my one of my cucumbers flowering. Please ignore the weeds! I started weeding and putting straw between the rows.

My mystery plant. It just started growing. I thought it was a cucumber plant, but now I'm thinking it's a pumpkin plant. I don't need that many pumpkins, so I pulled some. My row of lettuce. Yum!

Rob tilled another section for the corn he wanted. I've never grown corn before, so this is a first for me. I think there doing well! I hopr they taste as good. Jennifer has her braces off, so she is really looking forward to eating them.

Until later, need to pick those weeds!
